Concho Valley Electric Cooperative cuts manual load shedding with Survalent, avoiding 2 full-time operators

Concho Valley Electric Cooperative, Inc. faced a significant challenge during the severe winter storms of February 2021. With power generation failing and the grid operator mandating load shedding, the utility needed a fast and efficient way to manage power reductions to maintain stability for its 7,000+ members, as manual processes were resulting in extended outages.

The utility implemented Survalent's Rotational Load Shedding (RLS) solution, which automated the entire process. This Survalent system allowed for pre-configured, precise load shedding schedules, ensuring fair 15-minute outage rotations and prioritizing critical services. The solution freed up operators to handle other crisis tasks and provided an efficient response, with the utility estimating it would have required at least two additional full-time operators to manage the load shedding manually.
