Central Georgia EMC cuts outage time in half with Survalent

Central Georgia EMC, an electric cooperative serving over 55,000 customers in Georgia, needed to upgrade its outdated SCADA system to improve network reliability and reduce lengthy customer outages caused by frequent storms. They sought a new Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) platform from vendor Survalent that was flexible and included a Fault Location, Isolation and Service Restoration (FLISR) solution.

By implementing the SurvalentONE SCADA and FLISR solutions, Central Georgia EMC was able to automate power restoration and cut its outage time in half. The measurable results included a 32% reduction in their CAIDI index and a decrease in SAIDI from 130 to 65.8 minutes, which led to a 16% reduction in time spent on outage repairs and significantly lower operational costs for the utility.
