Central Georgia EMC - Customer Case Study

Central Georgia EMC, a nonprofit electric distribution cooperative serving dense suburban and rural areas in parts of 14 counties in Georgia, was facing growing reliability and resiliency challenges as severe weather events increased. After seeing that a small number of outages accounted for most of its outage time, the utility looked to Survalent and its advanced distribution management system (ADMS) capabilities to improve outage response, customer communication, and overall grid performance.

Survalent delivered an integrated ADMS solution built around model-based centralized FLISR, along with a protection settings manager and distribution power flow tools. Central Georgia EMC used the system to automatically diagnose faults, isolate damaged sections, and restore service faster, and it cut SAIFI by 32% in the first year of FLISR operation while reducing SAIDI from 130 minutes to 65.8 minutes over two years; crews also spent about 20% less time restoring outages.
