A SURF Case Study
The Van Gogh Museum, investigating the aging and color change in Vincent van Gogh's paintings, faced the challenge of collaboratively storing, sharing, and analyzing many terabytes of diverse research data with partners like ASML. They required a shared data environment that was trusted by all parties involved to ensure their interdisciplinary scientific research remained reproducible.
To solve this, the museum implemented SURF's Research Drive for secure data storage and sharing and SURF Research Cloud for data analysis. SURF provided a neutral, trusted platform with robust support, enabling a transparent workflow for handling data from initial scans to final interpretation. This collaborative research aims to determine the causes of color degradation and find measures to slow the process, ultimately helping to preserve the artworks for future generations.
