UU and HZ Multi-factor authentication ensures low-threshold security of services behind SURFconext

The customer Utrecht University, along with HZ University of Applied Sciences, faced the challenge of needing to secure access to cloud services available through SURFconext. They wanted to use their own existing multi-factor authentication (MFA) solutions to protect these services without requiring their users to adopt a new or additional MFA method.

SURF implemented a solution that allows institutions to seamlessly link their own MFA systems to SURFconext, enabling MFA to be turned on or off for each service. This provided a consistent and low-threshold security experience for users. The implementation was smooth, user feedback was positive, and the number of services secured with MFA has been steadily increasing at both institutions.
