A SURF Case Study
The customer is Utrecht University, which faced a challenge where its researchers experienced long delays in gaining access to new research services through the SURFconect platform, a service provided by the vendor SURF. This sluggish process, which involved a thorough security check for each service, hindered research progress and led to the use of less secure workarounds.
The solution implemented by SURF, through its SURFconect service, was a simplified procedure based on three key questions to quickly assess research-focused services. This new process, developed in collaboration with Utrecht University, shifted responsibilities and reduced the checks needed. As a result, SURF enabled researchers to gain access to new services within two days, significantly accelerating research while maintaining security through a clear division of responsibilities.
