A SURF Case Study
Utrecht University, led by Professor Alexandre Bonvin, needed immense computing power to support its research into predicting how biomolecules communicate, a process key to understanding diseases. To meet this challenge, the university utilized the HADDOCK software platform, which relies on the SURF Grid computing service for its processing needs.
The solution implemented by SURF provided easy access to a worldwide grid infrastructure, enabling the HADDOCK software to perform approximately 25 million complex calculations annually on servers across the globe. This granted researchers and students from 110 countries the massive computational resources required, reducing calculation times from months to days and leading to new insights in areas like cancer research and vaccine development.
