University of Twente - Customer Case Study

The University of Twente (UT) faced the challenge of enabling its researchers to collaborate securely with external partners. They needed a method for these external researchers to access local data without the university having to create and manage insecure guest accounts. They turned to SURF and its service, SURF Research Access Management (SRAM).

SURF implemented SRAM as an interface, allowing external researchers to log in using their own institutional credentials or an eduID. This solution eliminated the need for guest accounts, streamlined secure access to the university's Nextcloud service, and was quickly adopted for over 20 research projects within two months. The university also plans to expand SRAM’s use to its Virtual Research Environment, further facilitating collaborative research.
