Case Study: The Green Village accelerates sustainable research and innovation with SURF’s data platform

The Green Village's data platform as an engine for innovation

The Green Village, a living lab at TU Delft, faced the challenge of efficiently managing and administering the large amounts of IoT and research data generated by its various sustainability and energy experiments. To bring this diverse data together and make it accessible, they partnered with vendor SURF to develop an innovative IT solution.

SURF designed and built The Green Village Data Platform, which uses Apache Kafka, InfluxDB, and Grafana to collect, store, and visualize real-time sensor data. This stable and scalable solution, secured with SURF's SRAM authentication, has become an engine for innovation. It enables valuable collaborations between researchers and companies, provides live data for developing digital twins, and makes research data directly applicable, leading to a snowball effect of new projects.
