A SURF Case Study
SRON, the Netherlands Institute for Space Research, was faced with the immense challenge of storing and analyzing hundreds of terabytes of data generated by the Tropomi satellite instrument. The satellite produces 40 Gigabytes of data per orbit, and SRON needed a powerful, high-capacity computing infrastructure to constantly adjust its scientific algorithms and extract valuable information from the dataset.
SURF implemented its high-throughput data processing Grid service, a scalable setup designed for the fast processing of large structured datasets. This solution provided SRON with the exceptional computing power and support needed, enabling uninterrupted data processing at speeds of tens of gigabytes per second. With SURF's support, SRON's scientists were able to build a solid processing framework, successfully interpreting the data to observe atmospheric changes with unprecedented accuracy.
