A SURF Case Study
A network administrator at Summa College was facing the challenge of how to securely and traceably connect various IoT devices, such as care robots and environmental sensors, to the institution's network. Employees had started building their own networks, which caused the IT department to lose oversight and control while still being asked to resolve issues. The solution was implemented using the SURF service iotroam.
The SURF iotroam service provided a user-friendly self-service portal that allowed users to connect their devices independently. This gave the IT department regained control and oversight, eliminating the need for custom solutions. For employees, it created a win-win situation; they saved time by no longer building their own networks and could work more independently. The implementation was smooth, requiring minimal user explanation, and the service offloaded significant work from the college's IT staff.
