Interactive teaching method lets students learn from each other

Wageningen University & Research (WUR) lecturer Agnes Berendsen faced the challenge of low student engagement and minimal interactivity in online education, which was largely focused on one-way information delivery. Seeking to add depth and interaction, she and a colleague were inspired by a case study for the Presto peer assessment tool on the SURF website to develop a new interactive teaching method.

With support from SURF's Open and Online Education Incentive Scheme, they created and implemented the Le-Do-Loopmethod. This solution involves students working in groups to prepare and teach lessons to their peers, with the lecturer acting as a coach. SURF's support helped make this method a permanent part of WUR’s repertoire, leading to increased student motivation, deeper insight, and greater interaction. The project’s template was also made available via SURF for other institutions to use.
