A SURF Case Study
Windesheim University of Applied Sciences sought to shift from a program-centered model to one that gave students genuine control over their own unique learning processes while ensuring educational coherence and quality. To meet this challenge, the institution partnered with SURF to develop a new, flexible educational and IT infrastructure.
The solution implemented with SURF was a student-driven model centered on learning outcomes, supported by a flexible process and IT architecture. Windesheim developed its own architecture diagram and built custom applications, such as a planning tool and a progress dashboard, to put students in control of their learning routes. As a result, over 2,800 students now follow a personalized learning path, and the IT department has grown its in-house expertise to support this vision, with the goal of all first-year students starting on this new route by September 2025.
