A SURF Case Study
The Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA) wanted to harness study data to improve education and student guidance but faced the challenge of doing so responsibly without infringing on student privacy and autonomy. To meet this goal, the institution partnered with SURF to develop a careful, AVG-compliant strategy.
SURF provided its handbook on study data and the AVG, which offered a clear, step-by-step plan for processing personal data correctly. Following this guide, the HvA implemented a conservative infrastructure, including a class progress module in Brightspace where lecturers can only see a student's progress percentage. This solution has allowed the HvA to begin utilizing study data effectively while ensuring a safe environment for students and creating widespread support for its responsible use.
