Harmony in the forest, cross-border collaboration in the cloud

The University of Amsterdam (UvA) researcher Chirag Chittar faced the challenge of analyzing a large, complex dataset on the BaYaka people while needing to collaborate internationally, a difficulty compounded by being geographically separated from his team during the pandemic. To run the computationally intensive models for his research, he turned to SURF and utilized their Research Cloud service.

By implementing SURF Research Cloud, the researcher was able to drastically reduce processing times; a complex model test that took a day on a local laptop was completed in just 15 minutes. This powerful solution from SURF enabled seamless cross-border collaboration, allowing the analysis to be finalized for publication from India and leading to the study's successful conclusion and publication in Frontiers in Psychology.
