Better understanding of student skills with edubadges

Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences sought a way to properly reward and validate student skills, which fell outside its standard credit system for knowledge. The challenge was to offer differentiation so students could acquire and document skills at a level that suited them. To address this, the university worked with SURF and implemented its edubadges service.

SURF's edubadges provided a system to award digital credentials for extracurricular skills, enabling flexible, cross-curricular learning paths. The solution allowed students to make these skills visible on their CVs. The implementation was a success, with over 300 edubadges awarded, leading to high enthusiasm from both teachers and students. SURF's platform supported the university's innovation in education, creating new opportunities for lifelong development and increasing student engagement.
