A SURF Case Study
Amsterdam UMC, specifically its research group led by Henne Holstege, faced the challenge of needing to collaborate internationally on Alzheimer's genetic research. Strict European GDPR legislation made it extremely difficult to share and access the highly protected DNA data required for large-scale analysis, hindering the critical research.
SURF implemented a solution using its custom Spider technology to create the secure Alzheimer's Genetics Hub platform. This allowed researchers to compute on and analyze the sensitive datasets without downloading them, ensuring data privacy and compliance. SURF's platform facilitated international collaboration, accelerating Alzheimer's research by securely pooling data from global partners and is expected to lead to significant new findings.
