Universidad Nacional de Córdoba Utilizes High-Performance Supermicro A+ Servers to Advance Scientific Research

The Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (UNC) faced significant research limitations as its existing HPC cluster was too slow, causing simulations to take several days to complete. This forced some applications to monopolize the entire system, halting other critical research projects. To advance its scientific research, UNC partnered with vendor Supermicro to find a new high-performance computing solution.

Supermicro implemented a solution using its A+ BigTwin servers equipped with AMD EPYC processors, creating a cluster named Serafin. This new system delivered a fivefold increase in performance, reducing simulation times from 24 hours to just 4-5 hours. The solution provided greater scalability and concurrent access for more researchers, making it the most powerful open science computer in Argentina and offering outstanding value for UNC's budget.
