Petrobras Acquires Supermicro Servers Integrated by Atos To Reduce Costs and Increase Exploration Accuracy

Petrobras, one of the world's largest energy producers, faced the challenges of reducing the high costs of drilling and identifying more accurate locations for hydrocarbon deposits. To improve their exploration accuracy, they worked with vendor Supermicro, acquiring their SuperServer systems integrated by Atos.

The solution involved deploying a large HPC cluster named Pégaso, built with over 250 Supermicro servers. This powerful system, featuring dual AMD EPYC processors and NVIDIA A100 GPUs, achieved a #33 ranking on the Top500 list. For Petrobras, this resulted in faster data analysis, higher-resolution subsurface imaging, and a significant increase in drilling accuracy, which directly reduces exploration risk and increases profitability.
