The Ecological Intelligence Agency, a policy lab initiative, faced the challenge of transforming future decision-making around freshwater health and river ecosystems. They commissioned the design studio Superflux to explore how technology could inform policy and advocate for ecological flourishing, moving beyond traditional anthropocentric approaches.

Superflux developed a speculative proposal called The Ecological Intelligence Agency (EIA), an envisioned autonomous government body powered by a localized, ecological AI model. This solution was designed to incorporate a multitude of data sources and perspectives, including more-than-human voices, to make river health tangible for policymakers. The resulting concept served as a powerful provocation at a forum with over 80 stakeholders, catalyzing rich discussions about non-anthropocentric AI and representing a radical departure from current decision-making models.
