The Department for Transport UK commissioned Superflux to help explore the future challenges facing the national rail network and inform future policy decisions. The challenge was to understand passenger experiences and frame the factors that might influence rail policy over the next 20 years.

Superflux designed speculative artefacts, such as future rail maps and app posters, which were used as prompts in public workshops to facilitate discussion and debate about potential futures. This approach provided the Department for Transport with valuable qualitative insights into public perceptions, helping to ground their long-term policy planning in a deeper understanding of passenger needs and potential societal trends.
