Case Study: NTB Builds a More Efficient Digital Newsroom with Superdesk

Joining a community of news industry innovators

NTB, Norway’s national news agency, needed a better way to run its newsroom. Rather than buying off-the-shelf software or building a CMS in-house, the organization looked for a third option: purpose-built newsroom software that could improve efficiency without consuming too many resources. It selected Superdesk, Sourcefabric’s newsroom management system, as the product that best fit its collaborative and workflow needs.

Superdesk and NTB worked together through an agile development process, with Sourcefabric spending time in the Oslo newsroom to observe workflows and shape the implementation around editor feedback. After 11 months of two-week sprints, NTB began rolling out Superdesk in December 2016 and migrated the rest of its editorial production system by early 2017. The project delivered new features and workflow improvements for NTB, while also benefiting the wider Superdesk user community through shared enhancements and open source collaboration.
