Case Study: Softwire achieves carbon neutrality with Supercritical's long-term carbon removal solution

A Supercritical Case Study

Preview of the Softwire Case Study

Softwire is now carbon neutral and our offsets are 100% long-term carbon removal

Softwire wanted a genuinely impactful climate policy to measure and neutralise its 2021 emissions while prioritising long‑term solutions. To do this they partnered with Supercritical, a carbon accounting software company that helps technology firms access high‑quality carbon removal offsets and provides expert measurement and reduction advice.

Supercritical produced a 2021 footprint report, recommended reduction actions, and helped Softwire purchase 590 tonnes of long‑term carbon dioxide removal (562 t footprint + 5% buffer) across biochar (354 t), enhanced weathering (144 t), direct air capture (59 t) and bio‑oil (35 t) at an average ~£170/t. As a result, Softwire is now carbon neutral, with a per‑employee footprint of 2.11 t CO2e and a GHG intensity of 0.02, used short‑term tree bridging for 94 t until some projects deliver in 2024–25, and has signalled demand to help scale the removals market — all enabled by Supercritical.
