How Orsi achieved 3x faster annotations and pixel-perfect quality without medical expert annotators

Orsi Academy, Europe’s leading advocate for robotic and minimally invasive surgeries, needed a better way to build high-quality annotated datasets for surgical AI and robotics training. Their challenge was that expert physician annotators are expensive, hard to scale, and difficult to find, so they partnered with SuperAnnotate to support medical image and video annotation.

SuperAnnotate provided a dedicated annotation workforce and DataOps services, combined with Orsi’s in-house QA, to create ready-made datasets for surgical robotics tasks. The result was 3x faster annotation for RAPN pixel annotation, from 12.6 min/image with medical students to 4.49 min/image with SuperAnnotate, while also improving annotation quality and pixel-level precision; RAMIE annotation performance was similar, and Orsi reported better accuracy and a stronger overall partnership with SuperAnnotate.
