A Sunverge Case Study
Alectra, the second largest municipal utility in North America, sought to explore the management of distributed energy storage to provide customer benefits and grid support. The utility partnered with Sunverge to pilot its Virtual Power Plant (VPP) aggregation software for a fleet of residential solar-plus-storage systems.
Sunverge implemented its VPP platform to control the batteries, allocating capacity for both grid services and customer savings. The solution provided Alectra with several grid benefits, including frequency regulation and demand response, while also delivering an additional 12% in bill savings for customers. A study found that scaling the model could result in a cumulative net benefit of $140 million for Ontario and provide 140 MW of dependable capacity to defer grid upgrades.
