Staples Vegetables cuts refrigeration costs by 78% with Sunswap

Staples Vegetables, a British farming business, faced the challenge of maintaining cool temperatures for fresh produce during hot summer transport, a period when traditional diesel refrigeration units struggle. Their major retail customers were also increasingly demanding carbon reductions from their supply chain. They turned to vendor Sunswap and its Endurance solar-powered transport refrigeration units to meet this need.

Sunswap implemented its fully electric, solar-integrated Endurance units, which proved to draw 96% of their power directly from the sun during a summer heatwave, eliminating the need for grid charging. This solution cut Staples Vegetables' transport refrigeration costs by 78% and is projected to eliminate 256 tonnes of CO2 over a decade. The success demonstrated that renewable energy could reliably power intensive agricultural logistics.
