Saudi Arabia’s Al Shuaibah Solar Park cuts commissioning time by 30+ days with Sungrow

Sungrow provided its solar inverter and energy storage solutions for the Al Shuaibah Solar Park in Saudi Arabia, a cornerstone of the nation's Vision 2030. The challenge was to build the world's largest standalone photovoltaic plant in an extreme desert environment characterized by temperatures up to 50°C, frequent sandstorms, and sparse local infrastructure, which complicated construction, grid connection, and long-term maintenance.

The solution featured Sungrow's SG8800UD-MV-20 inverters and a 1+X modular inverter system, designed for harsh climates with dual-sand protection and advanced cooling. Sungrow's off-grid commissioning cut commissioning time by over 30 days. The modular design ensured continued operation during maintenance, reducing downtime by 95% and speeding repairs by 70%. The completed 2.1 GW plant is projected to generate 282.2 billion kWh of clean energy, reducing CO₂ emissions by up to 245 million tons.
