Qatar delivers 1.8 billion kWh annually with Sungrow's 800 MW solar plant

The country of Qatar faced significant challenges in constructing an 800 MWp solar plant due to its harsh desert environment, characterized by frequent sandstorms and temperatures exceeding 50°C. These conditions made construction difficult and placed extreme demands on the stable operation of electrical equipment, while traditional methods for identifying power loss issues were slow and expensive. Vendor Sungrow provided its SG250HX-20 inverters and MVS6750-LV MV Station to address these challenges.

Sungrow's solution utilized intelligent air-cooling and heat exchanger technologies to ensure reliable operation in the high temperatures. Their system also featured online, smart I-V curve diagnosis to pinpoint underperforming modules in real-time, greatly improving maintenance efficiency. The resulting plant generates 1.8 billion kWh of clean power annually, meeting 10% of Qatar's electricity demand and reducing carbon emissions by nearly one million tons per year, supporting the nation's goal of carbon neutrality by 2030.
