A Sungrow Case Study
Engie required a solution for Latin America's first and largest DC-coupled solar-plus-storage project, the 139 MW/638 MWh BESS Coya in Chile's Atacama Desert. The challenges included integrating a massive battery energy storage system (BESS) with an existing PV plant and ensuring reliable operation in an environment with extreme temperature swings. Vendor Sungrow addressed these with its PowerTitan energy storage system.
Sungrow implemented its PowerTitan ESS, an all-in-one solution featuring a prefabricated, modular design and smart liquid-cooling technology. This solution simplified integration and ensured reliable performance in the harsh desert climate. The project now provides power for nearly 200,000 households, improves grid stability, and is expected to reduce backup diesel usage by 260,000 tons annually, significantly advancing Chile's clean energy goals.
