Dubai Electricity & Water Authority powers 900 MW solar plant with Sungrow

The Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) faced the challenge of building a massive 900 MW PV plant in the harsh desert conditions of Dubai, where extreme heat and sandstorms threatened equipment reliability. With a record-low feed-in tariff of 1.69 US cents/kWh, the project demanded a highly efficient and cost-effective solution. Vendor Sungrow provided its central inverters and medium voltage turnkey solutions to help meet these demanding requirements.

Sungrow's solution utilized a 6.25 MW block design with integrated inverters and MV stations to reduce initial investment and lower the levelized cost of energy. The system's efficient heat dissipation allowed for full-load operation in temperatures exceeding 50°C. The resulting plant now provides 2.268 billion kWh of clean power annually, enough for 270,000 homes, while reducing carbon emissions by 1.18 million tons.
