KDDI Corporation completes edge data center proof-of-concept in 2021 with Sunbird DCIM

KDDI Corporation, a major Japanese telecommunications operator, faced the challenge of needing to remotely monitor and manage its proof-of-concept edge data center, which was housed in a 12-foot container. To achieve their goal of an industry-leading power efficiency, they partnered with vendor Sunbird DCIM to implement a comprehensive monitoring solution for their innovative immersion cooling system.

Sunbird DCIM provided its Power IQ and dcTrack software to aggregate data from intelligent PDUs, environmental sensors, and other devices, giving KDDI complete visibility into power consumption, temperature trends, and PUE values. The solution successfully demonstrated the effectiveness of DCIM in an edge environment, enabling KDDI to monitor the entire facility remotely and achieve a target PUE of 1.1 or less, confirming the project's success upon its completion in December 2021.
