J.R. Simplot Company - Customer Case Study

J.R. Simplot Company undertook a data center refurbishment to meet corporate green goals, increase rack density, improve troubleshooting and better manage power-related risks. They worked with Sunbird DCIM to introduce energy management software, intelligent rack PDUs and environmental sensors so they could get outlet‑level metering, remote control and user‑provisioning to support these objectives.

Sunbird DCIM implemented a move from four 15A/120V PDUs to two 30A/240V PDUs per rack and deployed intelligent PDUs, outlet switching, environmental sensors and DCIM software for data collection and reporting. The change doubled available rack capacity (from about 5.8 kVA to 11.5 kVA), stopped “rogue” equipment installations through LDAP/Active Directory provisioning, improved capacity planning and troubleshooting with outlet‑level visibility, and produced regular kWh and carbon footprint reports for the company’s environmental team.
