Fallon Health is a not-for-profit Massachusetts health plan and provider founded in 1977 that consistently ranks among the nation’s top plans and is the only Massachusetts plan with “Excellent” NCQA accreditation across HMO, Medicare Advantage and Medicaid products. Despite strong business performance, Fallon faced challenges delivering consistent training and career development across a diverse workforce and a changing business model, with survey results highlighting weaknesses in the performance evaluation process.

Fallon partnered with SumTotal to launch SumTotal Learn—branded internally as “The University”—to capture all formal and informal learning (classroom, new virtual classes and 400 Skillsoft courses) and to underpin a multi-level leadership development curriculum. The automated system improved visibility and analytics for decision-making and drove measurable results: 90% of managers completed performance evaluations on time, 64% of employees said automation improved efficiency, and employee satisfaction rose 6%.
