Duke Nuclear, part of Fortune 250 Duke Energy and operator of 11 nuclear units across six sites, faced a critical training challenge: its legacy learning management systems could not enforce prerequisites, manage certifications, or reliably demonstrate employee qualifications—shortcomings that risk regulatory penalties and operational shutdowns. The company therefore reevaluated its training and onboarding systems to ensure compliance and operational safety.
Duke implemented SumTotal Learn: Enterprise and integrated it with 14 internal and external business systems to embed training into employees’ day‑to‑day work. The integrated LMS reduced compliance costs and scheduling risks, linked training with security and other business systems to improve safety protocols, and cut the average number of onboarding training activities for independent contractors from 25 to 2, eliminating redundant training while maintaining required qualifications.
