A Sumo Logic Case Study
Laurel, a US startup that uses AI to automate timekeeping and billing for law firms, faced reliability blindspots after relying on nine monitoring vendors. With only basic container alerts, noisy and poorly enriched alarms, and a disorganized on-call rotation, the engineering team couldn’t confidently measure or report whether customers were having a good experience.
Laurel selected Sumo Logic, adopted SRE practices and SLOs (starting with request latency and API success), and integrated tools like OpsGenie and OpenTelemetry while using Terraform to quickly provision SLOs. The result was consolidated monitoring, better end-user insight, fewer false alerts and escalations, streamlined on-call work, and a clear, automated way to answer “Are our customers happy?” while reducing engineer stress.
