How Trek10 Uses Sumo Logic to Monitor Amazon Container Service

Trek10, a DevOps-focused company, needed a reliable, low-overhead way to collect logs from Docker containers running on AWS EC2 Container Service (ECS). With Docker and ECS enabling them to run many apps on the same cluster, the biggest challenge was getting container logs into a central system without complex tooling, custom AMIs, or heavy configuration.

Their solution was to install the Sumo Logic collector on each ECS host via EC2 user data, configure a sumosources.json to watch a host log directory, and map per-container log directories into that host path using ECS task definition volumes and mount points. The result is a simple, scalable, low‑maintenance pipeline that centralizes and separates logs per container, lets Trek10 monitor ECS workloads in Sumo Logic, and frees engineers to focus on building features rather than log plumbing.
