A Subeca Case Study
Marin Water, a utility serving the San Francisco Bay Area, faced significant challenges in collecting meter data due to its hilly terrain and dense vegetation, which hindered reliable readings from traditional AMI solutions. This led to operational inefficiencies, delayed billing, and increased manual labor. To address this, they partnered with vendor Subeca to pilot its Wireless Pin devices, seeking a solution that could integrate seamlessly with their existing billing system.
Subeca implemented its Wireless Pin devices, which were retrofitted onto Marin Water's existing meters and utilized the Amazon Sidewalk network for communication, eliminating the need for any new infrastructure. This solution achieved a 92% read rate within the utility's three-day billing cycle, providing reliable data even from the most challenging locations. The successful pilot, which covered 104 meters, demonstrated significant operational improvements and has paved the way for a potential system-wide expansion across Marin Water's 62,000-meter network.
