Extenda Retail, a provider with decades of experience in retail software, faced a challenge scaling authorization for its new cloud-native Hii Retail platform. Their legacy, centralized system failed to meet performance and compliance needs as they processed millions of transactions. To solve this, they turned to vendor Styra and its Open Policy Agent (OPA) technology.
Styra's solution decoupled policy logic from service proxies using OPA, allowing for fast, local authorization decisions critical for retail environments. This reduced cognitive load for developers and improved application performance. To manage OPA at scale, they implemented Styra Declarative Authorization Service (DAS), which provided a unified control point for policy, streamlined deployments, and delivered the real-time monitoring needed to prove compliance to auditors.
