Meta develops OpenCellular with StudioRed, casting 25 prototypes for first users

The customer, Meta, faced the challenge of making cellular network infrastructure affordable and deployable in remote and underserved areas, where traditional equipment is prohibitively expensive and not rugged enough for harsh conditions. They engaged the vendor, StudioRed, for the complete development of a new open-source wireless access platform.

StudioRed provided a comprehensive solution including industrial design, mechanical engineering, and prototyping to create the OpenCellular system. The design focused on creating a rugged, weather-resistant device that is also small enough for a single person to deploy. The vendor delivered a functional prototype, which was then used to cast 25 units sent to the first users, initiating the project's goal of bridging global connectivity gaps.
