A Stryker Case Study
DMC Huron Valley‑Sinai Hospital, a 153‑bed community hospital in the Detroit Medical Center system that admits about 10,000 patients a year and handles nearly 35,000 ER visits, was challenged by intrusive overhead paging, inconsistent nurse responsiveness, and a noisy environment that interfered with patient rest. Calls and alarms funneled through unit clerks created delays and left patients waiting for timely help.
The hospital deployed Vocera B3000 hands‑free communication badges (integrated with Rauland nurse‑call and Hill‑Rom bed alarms) to nurses and PCAs and enabled physician access via a Vocera gateway. This integration eliminated most overhead pages, improved HCAHPS quietness scores by 20%, freed unit clerks for other duties, sped responses and team mobilization (e.g., Stroke/Code Blue), and produced steady gains in patient satisfaction and bedside nursing time.
