A Stryker Case Study
Covia, a California nonprofit operating six life‑plan and multi‑level communities in the San Francisco Bay Area, needed faster, more reliable responses when residents used Wi‑Fi emergency pendants or wander‑risk bracelets. Although communities had modern Wi‑Fi, staff communications were fragmented—relying on aging radios, phones, pagers and intercoms—which caused delays, inconsistent care and prompted consideration of an expensive radio replacement.
Covia deployed Vocera wearable devices and smartphone/text integration, and integrated alarm feeds from its resident safety system into customized workflows for each community. Alerts now deliver voice and text with resident details and automatic escalation, enabling campus‑wide staff communication, speeding responses, removing manual dispatch delays and improving overall resident safety and operational efficiency.
