Case Study: Covia achieves faster response times and improved resident safety with Stryker (Vocera) mobile communication platform

A Stryker Case Study

Preview of the Covia Case Study

Improving Staff Communication and Response Time through Mobile Technology

Covia, a California nonprofit that operates six Life Plan/CCRC communities, faced fragmented staff communications and slow response times that undermined its goal of delivering a five‑star resident experience. Even with modern Wi‑Fi in place, gaps between systems and plans to replace aging radios threatened efficiency and consistent emergency response across campuses.

Covia implemented the Vocera Platform (wearable badges and a smartphone app) and integrated it with its resident safety system so alarms route automatically to the right responder as voice and text messages including resident name, location, and event. The integration removed manual dispatch delays and unreliable radio links, speeding responses, improving routine coordination, and increasing resident, staff and family safety and satisfaction—while underscoring the need for robust Wi‑Fi and staff training during rollout.
