A Stryker Case Study
Major Health Partners is a rural community hospital near Indianapolis that more than doubled in size in 2017, consolidating outpatient labs, provider practices and expanded ED services under one roof. Before the move, communication was fragmented—overhead paging, multiple phones, pagers, HIPAA apps and informal methods—which created workflow barriers across 1,100+ employees and made it difficult to scale a single communication strategy for more than 1,000 patient visits a day.
MHP implemented the Vocera platform enterprise-wide—Smartbadge wearables, the Vocera mobile app and the Engage workflow engine—integrating nurse call, telephony and the EHR to enable decentralized workstations, contextual alerts and device-agnostic connectivity. The change eliminated the switchboard bottleneck and overhead paging, improved staff safety and physician adoption, and delivered measurable gains: +8.4% quieter environment, +7.7% on-time surgical starts, +8.1% nursing satisfaction, +5.5% ED physician satisfaction and a 2.6-minute reduction in ED door-to-decision time.
