A Stryker Case Study
Stillwater Medical Center (SMC) is a 117‑bed acute care hospital in north central Oklahoma known for adopting advanced technology to improve patient care. Although SMC had already integrated the Vocera Communication Badge with its nurse‑call system, clinicians—especially respiratory therapists—faced inefficient physician‑order workflows that relied on printed orders at remote printers, causing delays, paper shortages and missed notifications; staff requested faster, more reliable delivery of orders using existing technology.
Working with long‑time partner Forward Advantage, SMC routed selected MEDITECH CPOE orders to the Vocera Badge via a Smart Route in Communication Director, sending only essential patient and order details. The change eliminated paper retrieval, sped order turnaround, improved delivery reliability and clinician coordination, increased bedside time and patient access to care, and built on prior gains (staff responsiveness rose from 74% to 82.4% and pain‑management satisfaction from 66% to 81.3% after initial Vocera integration); the customized solution was delivered in months and is being expanded to additional departments.
