Case Study: Virginia Tech Department of Geosciences advances near-surface research with STRYDE seismic imaging technology

A STRYDE Case Study

Virginia Tech Department of Geosciences completes 6 surveys with STRYDE

The Virginia Tech Department of Geosciences sought to advance its near-surface research but required a seismic imaging system that could enable more creative deployment strategies and higher data density than its previous cabled equipment. They acquired the affordable STRYDE nodal receiver system to meet this challenge.

Using the STRYDE system, the department completed six high-resolution seismic refraction surveys in 2023. The solution enabled the team to collect data types, quality, and density that were previously not possible, which has been described as a game-changer for their work. The STRYDE technology facilitated diverse research, from time-lapse imaging of soil moisture changes to studying bedrock weathering, and has led to ambitious plans for continued subsurface research in 2024.
