University of Oxford and Harper Adams University complete peatland survey in 1 hour with STRYDE

The University of Oxford and Harper Adams University faced the challenge of rapidly and non-destructively assessing peat volume, a major carbon reservoir, in a difficult-to-access saturated peat bog. Traditional methods were too slow, and the challenging terrain with very soft ground and dense vegetation made deploying heavier seismic equipment hazardous. They partnered with STRYDE, which provided its Nimble seismic nodes and a data harvesting service.

STRYDE's solution involved deploying 14 lightweight nodes in just 20 minutes, enabling the survey to be completed within a strict one-hour access window. The use of STRYDE nodes resulted in higher resolution data than previous methods and good coupling with the soft peat. The project successfully proved the concept that seismic methods are a viable tool for peat volume assessment, with processing-ready data delivered within two weeks of survey completion.
