REC powers San Francisco’s park system with STRV

Rec, a company co-founded by The Athletic’s former Head of Product, aimed to modernize how people access sports facilities and build community around them. Their challenge was to create a digital platform that could facilitate court bookings, class discovery, and community connection, making the perks of private clubs accessible to everyone. They partnered with the vendor STRV to develop this solution.

STRV designed and developed a web platform for Rec, starting with an MVP that included a foolproof booking system and a custom admin panel. The solution was built with inclusive design and a robust tech stack to ensure ease of use for all demographics. The results were immediate, with all available court slots booking up quickly without marketing. The platform's success led to major adoption, including powering reservations for San Francisco's park system and replacing the entire recreational software for the city of Torrance, demonstrating significant and measurable impact.
