Affect Strategies, a New York public relations and social media firm, wanted to grow brand awareness while recruiting strong candidates for its summer intern position. To do that, it worked with Strutta and used a social media contest instead of conventional cover letters and CVs.
Strutta’s Social Media Contest platform powered The New York Intern Project, which let applicants submit photos or videos, answer questions, and collect votes over seven weeks before finalists were judged. The campaign generated media coverage, expanded the candidate pool, and increased social engagement; in 2012, Affect’s Facebook Likes doubled in 5 weeks, traffic to the company website rose 40%, the contest received 110 entries and 15,953 votes, and it produced six feature stories and bylines in national publications.
