Genrec Engineering, a contractor working on the massive Kusile Power Station project in South Africa, needed a way to manage complex steel fabrication and track materials accurately across a 3,350-acre site. The challenge was to keep project delivery on schedule while maintaining tight cost control and precise visibility of items moving between the fabrication facility and the construction site. STRUMIS provided the steel fabrication management solution, including bar code data-collection tools.

STRUMIS implemented a bespoke bar code tracking interface for Genrec Engineering to track materials and fabricated items to within 1 metre, including GPS latitude and longitude for onsite traceability. Items were scanned when leaving the factory and again on arrival at site, helping ensure nothing was lost in transit and giving Genrec exact inventory locations throughout the five-year project. The result was much better control of site materials and improved productivity on a highly complex, large-scale build.
