Hearst Simplifies Deprovisioning Process With strongDM

Hearst, the media company behind 21 magazines including Elle, Cosmopolitan, and Esquire, needed a better way to manage engineering access across its fast-moving MediaOS environment. With thousands of employees and many services and databases to support, the onboarding and offboarding process was labor-intensive and had to avoid slowing down a latency-sensitive platform. Hearst used StrongDM, the infrastructure access platform, to simplify that workflow.

With StrongDM, Hearst’s DevOps team can invite new hires, assign roles, and automatically inherit the right database permissions without relying on scripts or checklists. StrongDM also provides an audit trail for permission changes and integrates with SQL clients, BI tools, and command-line workflows with no training required. The result was a much simpler process, with deployment taking about 1 hour and offboarding reduced to 60 seconds.
